We are the Dragonflies, the Mighty, Mighty Dragonflies!

The Dragonfly room is the pre-kindergarten class at UTCS. As the oldest children, they practice the skills needed for kindergarten. These skills include sustaining play with their peers, trusting their personal competence, building their awareness of their role in a community, and exercising their genuine love of learning. Dragonflies gain these skills through active play, group time, and varied social interactions.
Some activities unique to our classroom are: Tribes, Audio Drawing, Life Drawing, and Person of the Week. "Tribes" challenges the children to work together in pre-set groups using their problem-solving and communication skills. "Audio Drawing" requires the use of active listening and imagination. "Life Drawing" calls upon observation and concentration skills.
Both audio and life drawing provide the opportunity to practice small motor skills. "Person of the Week" gives everyone a chance to intentionally acknowledge and appreciate each other by sharing about our lives outside of the school. In addition, we take many adventures throughout the city via the metro bus. These trips reinforce our ideas of community and personal responsibility.
These activities, as well as the many other discoveries that occur everyday in the Dragonfly room, help UTCS create successful learners for the future.
