Our Program

Our curriculum is based on the understanding that children learn best through play, when provided with a variety of hands on experiences in a fun, positive environment. We challenge and support our students’ learning. Our goal is to develop self-esteem, problem-solving and negotiation skills, and enhance awareness of cultural diversity.
Learning is not a ‘race’ of information; it is a 'walk' of discovery
All of our classrooms use a variety of learning activities that are developmentally appropriate. Math, science, and language concepts are introduced through games, music, creative dancing, cooking, reading books, and dramatic play. Students are exposed daily to art experiences using a variety of media. Our large indoor and outside play areas provide space and time to move during all types of weather. The learning experience is further enhanced by field trips.
Student to Teacher Ratios
UTCS maintains low student-to-teacher ratios. Each room is staffed by full time and part time teachers with training in Early Childhood Education.
| Class | Age | Student : Teacher Ratio |
| Tadpoles | 1 year | 3.5 : 1 |
| Shooting Stars | 2 years | 5 : 1 |
| Wombats | 3 years | 6 : 1 |
| Orcas | 4 years | 7 : 1 |
| Dragonflies | pre-K | 7 : 1 |
Nutrition
UTCS provides hot, healthy, nutritious meals in compliance with USDA guidelines. Each child is provided with breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. Vegetarian options are available.
Parental Involvement
Parents have free access to their children at any time their children are attending UTCS. Parents may visit or pick up their children at any time during their scheduled days.
Parents are encouraged to participate in our school. Opportunities include doing laundry, accompanying classes on field trips, assisting with fundraisers, participating in all-school activities, or serving as a member of the UTCS Board of Directors or on a committee of the Board.
Through active parent involvements in the program, and through daily communication between parents and teachers, UTCS forges a partnership between parents and teachers in the important task of raising children to be self-confident, happy and able individuals.
