Help us build UTCS!
Thank you for considering a donation to our school during this crucial time in the organization’s history. UTCS is a small but active non-profit childcare center, established in Seattle’s University District in 1970. Over the past three years, our school community has experienced many changes and challenges - leadership shifts, a move to the UHeights historical building, and of course, a global pandemic. Throughout all of these challenges, UTCS has continued to be a place where children, teachers, and families gather to learn and grow together. As we emerge from these difficult years and consider what’s next for our school, we are excited about the opportunities before our community. And we are grateful for partners like you who can join us in support of making those dreams and opportunities a reality.
We are excited to announce that UTCS has received funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce’s ELF grant, which will support renovation efforts already underway at the UHeights community center. These renovations will enable us to modernize four of the historic building’s beautiful rooms for use as state licensed early learning classrooms. Opening these classrooms will enable us to provide early learning services to 60+ children and families. 50% of enrollment spaces in these new classrooms will be reserved for low-income families as part of the Washington State Working Connections Child Care program, something that we absolutely feel is in alignment with our school’s long standing mission and vision. This new opportunity to provide care for a larger segment of our community furthers our sense of urgency and commitment to sustaining our school over this last hurdle, toward a renewed sense of mission, stability, and impact.
While this is a huge opportunity for our community, timelines for renovation require that we operate at reduced capacity into the start of the coming school year. As we continue leveraging partnerships, grants, and other means of sustaining our school over these months of limited enrollment income, we are committed to continued care of children, maintaining employment (and benefits) for educators, and building a network of supporters who will help see UTCS into its future - which, of course, is where you come in!
